About a week ago, the Beginner and Intermediate guitar classes showcased the songs that they have worked all semester on in their Winter Concert. I interviewed a beginner student from Mr. Lorentz’ period 3 about their experience in the class and in the concert. Here is what I learned:
Period 3 learned three different songs to perform for the concert. “Aura Lee”, “Moorish Dance”, and “Waltz” by Brahms. It takes the class about two weeks to learn each song and to test out in order to move on to the next. But as the concert neared, they had to learn their last song in only a week. The class was very nervous being on the stage and having to perform in front of a large audience because this was the beginners’ first concert, but they learned much from this experience and know what to do for their next concert. This student thinks the guitar class is lots of fun and is something they would have never thought to do in the past. They intend on continuing with guitar throughout their years in high school so that they can be skilled enough to eventually be a part of the Advanced guitar class. It is clear that this student has found a new passion for music and the art of playing an instrument. It’s extraordinary to see young people getting involved in the arts and passing on their love to others.
